Walter Harrison Scholarship (Sumter EMC)

Sumter EMC would like your help in nominating a student for the $1,000 Walter Harrison Scholarship to be awarded by Georgia EMC.

To be eligible to receive the scholarship, the student must reside in the household (primary residence) of a Sumter EMC member.

Sumter EMC will submit applications from two finalists to Georgia EMC. The scholarship committee will judge applications from across the state to choose the winners. Both financial need and academic ability will be used to determine winners.

Walter Harrison Scholarships are funded through donations contributed by EMCs throughout Georgia. This statewide scholarship program was created in 1985 in memory of Walter Harrison, a Georgia and national rural electric co-op pioneer.

The scholarship fund will pay $1,000 to each scholarship winner, with the check payable to both the school and the recipient. This scholarship can be used at any two or four-year accredited college or university in Georgia, including vocational-technical schools.

The applications must be submitted to Andrea Walker by January 15, 2019, to be considered for this year's competition. You may also access the application on our website www.sumteremc.com under the community tab.
