Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship

2018 Hester - CC

The Community Bankers Association of Georgia (CBA) is pleased to announce the 2018 Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship. The goal of this scholarship is to assist deserving high school seniors in their first year of college and to promote community banking. To compete, students must be sponsored by a local community bank, must complete an activity record expressing their leadership activity in school, write a short essay on community banking, provide teacher recommendations and an official high school transcript.

The Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship is open to Georgia high school seniors who will be entering a Georgia college, university or technical college (two-year program or more) in the fall semester of 2018. Awards are based on academic merit and not financial need.

The scholarship is named after long-time CBA Chief Executive Officer, the late Julian Hester and his late daughter, Jan Hester. Jan was a senior at the University of Georgia when she died in an auto accident on April 15, 1990. In addition to supporting community banking, this scholarship is an opportunity to pass on the positive qualities both Julian and Jan Hester exemplified to further the development of tomorrow's generations. The four scholarship recipients will be awarded $1,000 each (paid directly to the college's admissions office).

The applications must be submitted to the Community Bankers Association of Georgia through a CBA member bank. Interested students, who may have received the application through their high school, can visit CBA's website, http://web.cbaofga.com/search, to verify which community bank is in their city. Students can also contact the CBA office to find this information. The student will then contact the bank and ask for sponsorship. The CBA encourages all its member banks to provide the student with as much information on community banking as possible so they can write their essay efficiently.
Judging & Deadlines
Applications should be submitted to a CBA member bank no later Friday, April 6, 2018. Banks then turn the packet into the CBA. The applications will be reviewed and judged, and the winners will be notified and announced by the end of April.

Please contact Ms. Peake Wilson at (770) 541-0379 if you have any questions. You may download the scholarship application by clicking here.
Thank you for spreading the word about this scholarship program.
